Interested in Being A Young Life Volunteer?
Because as a volunteer leader for Young Life while at
University of Virginia, this is what you will find: Christ.
You will learn that living within your gifts as a leader for
Christ is the most live-giving thing you've ever done. And
you will also find that as you give away more and more of
the life you might have expected to lead in college, the more
you will understand how God can use you as a leader for the
rest of your life.
GROWTH.
You will grow in your faith and your relationship with
Christ as you invest in the lives of others. God will use
you to do incredible ministry, but He will use ministry to
do incredible things in you.
TRUE FELLOWSHIP.
You will develop lifetime friendships with many other leaders
as you reach out together to make a difference in the high
school world. You will have more fun, laugh harder, and take
more chances than ever before in your life. For the battle
we will fight together is the battle for the lost high school
kid. We live on "war stories".
PURPOSE.
Young Life requires a lot from its leaders because we believe
that living with purpose is the only way to live. So the commitment
level is high. The commitment to work with Young Life is for
the remaining college career. Kids don¹t need casual
leaders in their lives, so leaders spend a minimum of 10 hours
per week working with kids. Most leaders average 15 hours.
This is a huge commitment and sacrifice-we know! But being
a Young Life Leader (not just a Young Life kid) can give you
more purpose than you ever thought possible.
TRAINING.
We have a weekly two-hour Leadership Training Course for any
interested students during the first semester of their First
Year. Here you will learn all about living with purpose. After
prayer and a sense that God is calling you to lead Young Life,
you will interview with the Staff in December, and potentially
be placed on a leadership team in the spring semester. New
Leaders begin to work directly with kids in the middle of
spring semester while also going through a more extensive
training course to prepare them specifically for the mission
of Young Life.
Are
you prepared to give yourself away? Never again in your life
will you have as much time than you do RIGHT NOW. High school
students are making major decisions about life and they need
role models who can lead them to something that will last.
So here's the question: What are you gonna give your life
to for the next few years? Do you want to be a part of something
that will change lives FOREVER?
"Everyone
has a right to know the truth about Jesus Christ. They have
a right to know who he is, a right to know what he's done
for them, a right to know how they relate to that, a right
to know him personally. Furthermore they have a right to make
their own choice about him. Now, if you got in here accidentally,
without realizing that that's what Young Life is all about,
then you ought to get squared away, or you ought to hunt up
the nearest telephone booth and ask for the bus schedule.
That's not just what Young Life is all about, that's all that
Young Life is all about--Jesus Christ."
- Jim
Rayburn, Founder of Young Life
"For
whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses
his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to
gain the whole world yet forfeit
his soul"
-Luke 9:24, 25
